‘Art in the Park’ features Dana Weir, collage demo

Port Townsend School of the Arts will host a free family-friendly art event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22 at Chetzemoka Park featuring teaching artist Dana Weir, who will host a demonstration on collage-making.

Weir will show plenty of examples and methods for collage-making, and complementary art kits (including assorted papers, glue sticks and markers) will be provided for participants to take home for continued art making and inspiration, organizers said.

Primarily geared toward kids in kindergarten through sixth grade, the event will be conducted following COVID-19 safety protocols, including physical distancing and required masks.

“It is a fun, community-friendly event, conducted in a safe manner,” said PtSA spokeswoman Meg Kaczyk.

A teacher and artist, Weir leads classes for adults and youth at Port Townsend School of the Arts, and also teaches at Swan School in Port Townsend.

Her work has been exhibited in many invitational and juried shows in Oregon and Washington, most recently at the Northwind Arts Center and the PtSA Grover Gallery, including “Encaustic,” a group show at PtSA Grover Gallery in March.

The upcoming art event is made possible through the support of the D.V. and Ida J. McEachern Charitable Trust, which was established in 1969 and provides creative and positive opportunities to enhance the lives of the region’s children through a variety of artistic and cultural programs.

Chetzemoka Park is at 900 Jackson St. Learn more at www.PtArts.org.
