The local branch of the American Association of University Women is accepting nominations for its annual Woman of Excellence award.
The award is a tribute to an outstanding woman who has resided and/or worked in Jefferson County for at least three years, and who has made a significant contribution recently to help transform the community.
Nominations are being accepted for any East Jefferson County woman based on her record as a role model, change agent, teacher/mentor and community activist. Membership in AAUW is not a requirement.
Nominations can be made by any local citizen to womanofexcellence@aauwpt.org.
The nomination process and information are available on the AAUW Port Townsend website at pt-wa.aauw.net.
The deadline for submission and support letters is Sunday, Nov. 15.
Last year’s honoree, Siobhan Canty, president and CEO of the Jefferson Community Foundation, earned recognition for creating the Housing Solutions Network, bringing together nonprofits, developers, and landlords to find solutions to the local housing crisis. She also created the COVID-19 Emergency Fund that raised more than $700,000 to help the community with housing, financial assistance, mental health, healthcare, food, and youth/education.
