The National Weather Service in Seattle has declared a winter storm warning in effect for the Olympic mountains and valleys for 10 a.m. Friday through 10 a.m. Saturday.

The winter storm warning covers all areas above 1,500 feet in elevation, including Hurricane Ridge and Quinault.

Snowfall is expected to range from 12 inches to 26 inches.

The highest snowfall totals are likely to be the eastern slopes of the Olympic Mountains.

Travel is expected to be "very difficult," according to the National Weather Service.

A winter weather advisory has also been issued for the lowlands of eastern Jefferson and Mason counties, from 10 a.m. Friday through 10 a.m. Saturday. The advisory is in effect for Brinnon, Seabeck, and Shelton.

The highest snowfall will be concentrated from Hoodsport to Seabeck, between 4 to 6 inches. Snowfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected elsewhere, the National Weather Service said Thursday.
