A substance abuse treatment program is being launched in the Jefferson County Jail  to help people who have been incarcerated get a head start on their road to recovery from addiction.

Jefferson County commissioners approved an agreement with the Washington State Health Care Authority to start the program.

The county will pay the Health Care Authority $146,000 to provide treatment to inmates at the county jail in Port Hadlock, and the program is also expected to enhance existing services to people lodged in the jail, as well as relapse prevention efforts and substance use disorder assessments.

Commissioners approved a contract with the state agency at their meeting Monday, Jan. 11.
