An early traffic stop in Port Ludlow led to two arrests for drug possession Saturday, Nov. 14.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Justin Coronado was patrolling Highway 104 near Highway 19, according to a recent online post by the sheriff’s office, when he noticed a blue BMW traveling about 15 miles an hour faster than the posted speed limit.

Coronado also noticed it was being driven erratically and had “defective equipment” on the vehicle.

He contacted the driver, who identified himself with a passport as Richard Purves, 43, of Port Orchard.

Purves' license was suspended in the third degree, according to the sheriff’s office, and he was subsequently arrested. 

A passenger, Nicole Prince, 32, also of Port Orchard, was approached by Deputy Kolby Schreier and found to be in possession of suspected heroin, according to the announcement.

“Purves' vehicle was seized for application of a search warrant,” officials said in the online post. “During a search of his vehicle, deputies located 52.70 grams of methamphetamine, 40.37 grams of heroin, and 219 fentanyl pills.”

Deputies also located packaging, scales, a drug ledger, and $4,860 in cash. 

The total (per gram or per pill) street value of the drugs seized was $8,965, officials said.

Both Purves and Prince were subsequently booked into the Jefferson County Jail without incident.
