Port Townsend Sunrise Rotary has named Zen Cook and Sage Harrington the club’s December Students of the Month.
Both students are seniors at Port Townsend High School and are recognized for excellence in vocational and career and technical training, according to the Rotary.
Each month, the Rotary highlights a different element of student life to recognize the diversity of student achievement.
Teachers and staff chose the students based on three criteria: persistence in completion of projects, creativity in project design and involvement in career and technical training beyond classroom requirements.
Cook is currently designing and building a prosthetic hand for his senior project. After high school, he plans to pursue a degree in engineering. He is interested in harnessing AI to build prosthetic limbs with high functionality.
Harrington participates in a mentorship with Atlas Technologies, a local manufacturing company that specializes in bonding dissimilar metals and performance vacuum solutions. For his senior project, Harrington is building a compression igniter. He plans to continue his career and technical training after high school.
