In earlier action against Chief Kitsap, the Ranger girls varsity team beat the Bears in three games.
The Quilcene girls played well and were able to adjust to a change in the lineup due to an injury, said Ranger Coach Cailey Snyder.
The Rangers also slogged to a win over Mary M. Knight, claiming a four-set victory, 26-28, 25-28, 25-7, 25-21.
Bridget Hitt served 24/26 for the Rangers, seven of them aces. Hitt had 13 kills, 20 assists, and 15 digs.
Shelby Love, playing as right side hitter, served 11/14 and contributed one kill, one assist, and 28 digs.
Middle hitter Megan Jones served 7/12 and contributed four aces, seven kills, three assists, and 13 digs.
Savannah McBride had a big night and served 20/21 with three aces, seven kills, and 24 digs.
The Rangers Ashley Jones served 10/10 with two aces, eight kills, and 10 digs.
Jayden Talley, an eighth-grade right side hitter, served 12/15 with four aces, one kill, and six digs.
The night started with a few surprises for Quilcene. The Rangers were adjusting to not having two of their starters, and after the first set, they were able to come together for a win.
The Rangers took on Clallam Bay and won three of five sets to open the season.
Quilcene took the win despite missing one of its starters.
“It took a bit for us to get into the rotation, but thanks to the leadership of my captains (senior Olivia Benson and juniors Bridget Hitt and Shelby Love), good communication, and eighth-grader Jayden Talley’s serves, our team was able to keep cool under the pressure and gain our first win,” Snyder said.
