Jefferson County commissioners approved a $1.3 million contract Monday for a culvert replacement project on Snow Creek Road.
Bruch & Bruch Construction, Inc. has been hired to replace the culvert. County officials said the culvert is badly deteriorated and at risk of failure, but is located under 45 feet of fill dirt.
The project includes digging out the old culvert, replacing it with a new 72-inch diameter pipe, and replacing the road fill and roadway.
The work will be paid for by a $997,500 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and $166,250 in state funding that will come from a Public Works Board Construction Loan.
The loan will be repaid over 20 years by the County Road Fund.
