The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to 308 calls for service from Nov. 1 through Nov. 8. Deputies conducted 84 traffic stops, of which six resulted in criminal (misdemeanor/felony) charges.

Nov. 1: Deputies responded to a man requesting “help” in the Discovery Bay area. The man was contacted, after his location was tracked by his 911 calls. The man would not provide his address or what sort of help was required. It was determined that no help was needed. All services were refused by the man.

Nov. 2: Deputies responded to a report of suspicious activity in the Cape George area. A burglary was reported to have occurred, based on a flashlight being discovered in a room in the victims’ home. The victims proceeded to tell their adult child, who then in turn told the Sheriff’s Office. Multiple other suspicious activities have been reported as well. The incident(s) have been investigated, and/or continue to be investigated.

Nov. 3: Deputies responded to an obviously wrecked vehicle in a field in the Discovery Bay area. It was determined the vehicle was highly likely to be a suspect vehicle that fled from a traffic stop by State Patrol the night prior. The vehicle was not pursued, however, clearly did not make it very far based on where the collision location was in relation to where the vehicle originally fled from. The vehicle was impounded.

Nov. 4: At around 3 p.m. in the Chimacum area, a man crashed his vehicle into a power pole. It was found on arrival by deputies and aid crews that the vehicle was overturned and had snapped the pole into pieces. The man was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol, and was subsequently criminally cited for DUI, as he was admitted into a hospital for treatment of injuries caused in the collision.

Nov. 5: A deputy observed a vehicle driving at 90+MPH on Center Road (in a 55MPH zone) in the Dabob area at around 7 p.m. After conducting a traffic stop on the vehicle, which was swerving over the center and fog lines while at this speed, it was quickly discovered the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The driver was subsequently arrested for DUI, and booked into the Jefferson County Jail.

Nov. 6: A deputy responded to a reported burglary in the Port Townsend area. The caller in this case reported their storage unit had the lock broken off, and the door was also reportedly broken. The deputy was unable to locate the storage unit, as the caller was not present on arrival, and all doors and locks at the facility were intact.

Nov. 7: A deputy stopped a vehicle in the Irondale region after callers on the road reported poor driving from the vehicle. It was discovered the driver recently had major medical procedures done and was likely their driving performance was suffering due to that.

Nov. 8: A caller in the Port Townsend area reported a bear is roaming their neighborhood at night, and defecating around the neighborhood. The caller requested extra patrols, but chiefly “just wanted to let the county know about it”.
