The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a total of 343 calls for service from Aug. 7-13.

Deputies conducted 112 traffic stops, of which two resulted in criminal (misdemeanor/felony) charges.

Aug. 7: A Brinnon resident reported their neighbor’s chickens were eating their blueberries. Law enforcement made contact with the neighbors, and they said they would do better about keeping the feathered berry thieves in their own yard.

• A report of a traffic hazard on West Valley Road in Chimacum. The reporting person described the hazard as “two fat miniature horses,” and contained them in their fenced yard. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Animal Control Officer arrived, and made arrangements for the horses’ owner to retrieve them.

Aug. 8: Deputies assisted Port Townsend Police with multiple reports of a disturbance in the parking lot of Safeway. A man was throwing shopping carts, while yelling and making obscene hand gestures to passing vehicles. The subject said he was “taking out his frustrations on the shopping carts.” Officers served the subject with a trespass admonishment.

Aug. 9: A vehicle was reported as parked on a dirt road for nine days off Highway 101, in the west end of Jefferson County. Law enforcement arrived, and discovered the vehicle was a rental that had been reported stolen out of California. Evidence inside the vehicle was recovered, the vehicle was towed and the owner was contacted.

• A disturbance was reported at a Jefferson Transit bus shelter near Four Corners Road in Port Townsend. The reporting party stated that a man was screaming, throwing things and kicking buses. The behavior prevented buses from entering the shelter. When deputies arrived, the subject was calm and compliant.

Aug. 10: A Port Hadlock resident called to report a series of small fraudulent charges from Google and Amazon were made on their credit card, totaling $140. The caller believes the charges were made out of California, and believes their number was compromised online. The victim’s bank is reversing the fraudulent charges.

• Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Washington State Patrol responded to a two-car collision in Chimacum. One driver went through a stop sign without stopping and caused the collision. Airbags were deployed, but there was no report of injuries.

Aug. 11: Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office assisted Washington State Patrol with a hit-and-run collision on Highway 101 in Sequim. A van side-swiped a Clallam Transit bus, and the driver fled the scene. No bus passengers were injured.

Aug. 12: A report of a noise complaint at Fort Flagler. On three consecutive nights after closing hours, multiple cars of kids were driving through the park, screaming. Washington State Patrol, the law enforcement agency that governs Washington State Parks, was requested to do extra patrols.

• A Port Ludlow resident reported malicious mischief. The resident returned home to find damage to five of their vehicles. The estimated total of damages was $10,500. The victim had no cameras, and there was no evidence left behind by the vandal(s).

Aug. 13: A Brinnon resident called about a large number of people, and two to three cars, on abandoned property. They reported hearing arguing and screamed obscenities. Deputies checked the property, and found no vehicles or people. The reporting party stated they all ran off into the woods when law enforcement arrived.

This week, there were multiple reports of vehicle-versus-deer collisions in Jefferson County. Minimal damage to vehicles, and no serious injuries to passengers, were reported. If only the deer would obey their crossing signs. Until then, stay alert and be safe.
