The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a total of 280 calls for service from May 9-16. Deputies conducted 66 traffic stops, of which one resulted in criminal (misdemeanor/felony) charges.
May 9: Deputies assisted the Washington State Patrol with a multiple vehicle collision on Rhody Drive (State Route 19) near Anderson Lake Road at around 11 a.m. The road was closed for several hours while the scene was investigated by a collision tech from WSP, and the vehicles involved were towed away.
May 10: A deputy responded to a call at HJ Carroll Park after a caller reported a parent encouraging their child to play on the playground equipment, which is under construction. The parent and child were educated by parks staff about what the “Area Closed” signs meant, as well as why playing on unfinished equipment is a poor choice, prior to the deputy’s arrival.
May 11: A deputy responded to a call from a passerby, reporting that people were parking on the side of the road in Chimacum, immediately next to very obvious “No Parking” signs. The deputy advised them to move. The offending vehicles did so without issue.
May 12: Deputies responded to the Gardiner area after a caller reported a bloodied man had shown up at their door, claiming he got jumped. The man claimed to have known one of the attackers through jail time spent together, and had agreed to one-on-one combat with the man after some dispute over words said about the other man’s grandmother. Apparently, four other people showed up with the other man, and all partook in the subsequent fight. The man who agreed to one-on-one combat did not wish to press charges.
May 13: A person in the Chimacum area called to report they’d almost been scammed out of $30,000, through a scam of some sort. The person stated they’d already changed any potentially compromised information and accounts, and they were advised by the bank to make a report. On attempts by a deputy to contact the victim, they did not respond.
May 14: A deputy responded to the Eaglemount area for a reported burglary. After further investigation, it appeared this was an issue surrounding a divorce, and was not in fact a burglary.
May 15: Deputies responded to a person having a mental health crisis in Port Hadlock, who had gone into their neighbors’ garage and home. The person was taken for psychiatric treatment without incident through collaboration with East Jefferson Fire Rescue.
May 16: A deputy responded to a report of a wallet found in the Port Ludlow area. The wallet belongs to a person who’s been missing since 2015, and the original agency that took the report was notified of this, to continue the investigation.
