“Don’s Lunch Counter South”: A Leader article and photo a few years ago featured Sam, the genial and well loved counter person at Don’s Lunch counter.
The demise of that beloved community institution under Don’s Pharmacy’s new ownership has saddened the many folks who were such loyal customers for many years. But now, a new grouping of five of the former servers and cooks at Don’s has re-grouped in the building in Port Hadlock that was formerly known as Scampi and Halibut, at the new Farm and Sea Grill on Ness’s Corner Road.
As a longtime fan of both the food at Don’s Lunch Counter and of Sam, I can attest that Sam is back in this new location with her vivacity and salty humor intact. And the food is just as good, if not in some cases, better! Sam still mixes a mean and thick milkshake! The fries are crispier and tastier, the coleslaw is from the same delicious recipe, and the hamburgers are even bigger! Sam works the lunch shift and is there Wednesday through Friday.
