Rotary Club to host car show in Port Ludlow

Start your engines, car enthusiasts: The Rotary Club of East Jefferson County will host their first-ever Rotary Car Show on Saturday, Sept. 25.

Any year, make, or model of car is allowed, except for Ford Pintos, of course, and the Rotary Club is offering prizes for cars that win in the vehicle categories at the show.

The rubber will hit the road for 20 different categories at the car show, including cars from the 1970s, rat rods, and muscle cars from 1972 and older. Awards will be given for best-in-show, overall people’s choice, and much more.

Category winners can receive a variety of prizes, such as an East Jefferson Rotary Club glass mug, or a car enthusiast’s “bouquet” of assorted tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, and other helpful gadgets. Goodie bags will be handed out at the event, as well.

Local resident Susan Kaysinger is thrilled to bring out her 1973 Ford Bronco to the show. Her Stroppe Bronco, also known as a Baja Bronco, is a limited edition off-road racing vehicle designed by legendary racer and builder Bill Stroppe.

“I’m really excited about it; that stuff’s always fun,” Kaysinger said of the upcoming show. “It’s so much fun to meet people.”

Many more cool cars will be at the show, such as Ned Luce’s 2012 Porche 911 Carrera 4S, and Carol and Tom Lundbom’s 1939 Chevrolet Master Deluxe.

So far, 22 vehicles have registered for the car show, with many more expected to register in the coming week. Luce, a Rotary Club member of 12 years, estimates a lot more vehicles will be registered before the big day, and between 400 and 500 people are expected to attend the event.

All car lovers are encouraged to bring out their pride and joy to the Rotary Car Show for “the last gasp of summer,” Luce said.

“This is an opportunity for our club to provide a community oriented event that will highlight [Rotary Club of East Jefferson County]’s activities, and Rotary International success,” Luce said.

The Rotary Club has been involved with the bookmobile at Jefferson County Library, a shelter at HJ Carroll Park, and successful eradication of polio.

October is a particularly important month for Rotary Clubs, as Rotary International has been instrumental in eliminating the polio virus across the globe. Oct. 24 is World Polio Day.

The Rotary Car Show will be held in the parking lot directly north of the Port Ludlow Yacht Club, at 55 Heron Road, Port Ludlow.

More parking will be available in the lots further north of the yacht club.

The event will last from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, and those with registered vehicles must arrive at 9 a.m. Restrooms will be available at the yacht club.

Dusty Green Cafe will cater the car show.

To register a vehicle for the event, email a request for a registration to Ned Luce (nhluce66@gmail.com). After receiving a registration form, send it to the Rotary Club of East Jefferson County at PO Box 654 Port Hadlock, WA 98339. Registration will cost $20 and attendees can register at the door as well.

Admission for the general public is $5, and children under 12 years old can get in for free.

The Rotary Car Show is sponsored by numerous local businesses such as Sound Community Bank, Circle and Square Auto Care, Sea Change Cannabis, and many more.
