Rivals start cross country season in Maple Valley

The East Jefferson Cross Country team claimed 11th place overall in its opening meet of the season Saturday at the Tahoma Coed Relays at Lake Wilderness Park in Maple Valley.

The meet was made up of mixed-gender relay teams of individuals (three of one gender, two of the other) in which each athlete ran the 3,000-meter loop before handing off to the next runner. 

East Jefferson ran three teams in the event with their team of junior Sebastian Manza, senior Max Allworth-Miles, junior Camryn Hines, sophomore Aliyah Yearian, and freshman Soare Johnston and finished just outside the top 10.

There were 36 schools competing in the event, and many schools ran multiple teams. 

The top male times from East Jefferson were posted by Allworth-Miles (11:36), Manza (11:49), and Johnston (12:43).

The top female times for the Rivals were set by Yearian (13:43), Hines (14:10), and senior Lia Poore (15:16).

East Jefferson next heads to Port Angeles on Saturday, Sept. 18th to compete at the Salt Creek Invitational.
