The Port Townsend Redhawks beatout Bellevue Christian for their first win on the season ending with a 4-0 score. “I was pleased overall with the team's performance,” coach Robert Cantley said “This year we are focusing on a better passing game, playing with a higher tempo while exhibiting patience while trying to create opportunities. During the game I felt we controlled the majority of play, limiting the other team to chances from corners and free kicks. Senior Nico Winegar made a few saves but nothing that truly threatened his goal.” Cantley described the March 20 win as a “physical match that the other team excelled at in most one-on-one challenges.” He said notable performances were from junior Lou Babik in defense, a leading goal by junior Silas DeWyse with a “powerful run down the right by senior and captain Zach Dempsey. “Early in the second half we doubled the lead through a penalty scored by sophomore Eli Lupton,” the coach said. “Ten minutes from the end Silas DeWyse scored his second after intricate passing through him and Dempsey, with the assist being provided by senior and co-captain Ian Kjeldgaard. Late on senior Ben Mattern picked up a loose ball in the penalty area and planted an excellent shot into the far corner.” The Redhawks were scheduled play against the Chimacum Cowboys at 4:15 p.m. March 26 (after the Leader’s press time) in Chimacum. “The matchup against Chimacum is usually an opportunity to work on concepts we discuss in training, as well as a chance to get more game time to squad players,” Cantley said. “We are looking to pay attention to our combination play and team shape both on and off the ball.
