The Quilcene Rangers girls fastpitch softball team went on a tear last week, winning three games in a row in a COVID-19 shortened season.

The Rangers mauled Muckleshoot 18-3, then pounded Pope John Paul II by the same score, 18-3, before steamrolling Rainier Christian 28-4 on Senior Day.

In the blowout against Muckleshoot,

Stormie Elkins’ first-inning triple got the Ranger offense off to an 11-0 lead.

Kayla Ward contributed two doubles in the inning for Quilcene, hitting in four baserunners.

Ward also pitched three innings for the win.

Muckleshoot rallied with five unanswered runs to cut the lead to 11-5 in the fourth inning, but Quilcene closed the game out with seven runs in the bottom of the frame to end the game.

Jayden Talley got two hits in the game, and Brittney Beukes also contributed with a first-inning single for the Rangers.

In the midweek matchup against Pope John Paul II, the Rangers scored five runs in the second inning behind Marissa Kieffer’s three-run home run, and Quilcene plated nine in the third inning behind RBI singles, again by Kieffer and also Brittney Beukes.

Elkins got two hits, and Ashely Jones, Ward, and Jayden Talley each got one.

Ward also started in the circle for the Rangers, pitching three innings to earn the win.

Abby Ward made her high school pitching debut, pitching two innings and striking out four.

On Senior Day, Quilcene’s offense recorded 27 hits in route to an easy 28-4 win against the Mustangs.

Lead-off hitter Brittney Beukes got three hits, and Elkins added four.

Kieffer connected for five hits and hit for the cycle, getting the home run in her last at bat.

Kayla Ward contributed hits, while Jayden Talley tagged the Mustangs for four hits. Shelby Love added two hits, Ashley Jones contributed one hit, and Abby Ward finished with two hits.

Justice Ortlieb and Kaydence Yeoman also contributed with some excellent plays in the field, according to Coach Mark Thompson.

All four Ranger pitchers made an appearance in the circle, with Kayla Ward once again picking up the win.

Elkins pitched the third inning, Love pitched a scoreless fourth, and Abby Weller came through with a scoreless fifth inning.

The Rangers won their 10th straight Sea-Tac League title, once again going undefeated in league play (also for the 10th straight year).

Five Ranger players were selected as First-Team All League players:

Marissa Kieffer (Sea-Tac League MVP), Brittney Beukes, Stormie Elkins, Shelby Love, and Kayla Ward.
