Though Quilcene’s Worthington Park will not be the scene of a Halloween party as in year’s past, something of the seasonal celebration is set to return: Registration is now open for the third annual scarecrow contest.

Setup dates are  from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 and Sunday, Oct. 25, by prior reservation (in order to comply with social distancing requirements).

Hay and straw stuffing, as well as support posts, will be provided at the construction site, the Worthington Park Mansion (101 West Columbia St. in Quilcene).

Voting will take place via the Worthington Park website (www.worthingtonparkquilcene.org) from Tuesday, Oct. 27 to Friday, Oct. 30.

The winner will be announced on Halloween.

“Photos of each scarecrow will be provided on the voting page, however you are also welcome to drive by the mansion on Columbia Street to see them in person, being sure to follow state recommendations for physical distancing,” event officials noted.

“The scarecrow entries will be erected in front of our newly restored Victorian mansion,” explained Brian Cullin, Quilcene Historical Museum’s director of communications.

“We are working closely with our school, with the preschool and elementary classes [on] submitting entries and the remote learning students providing Halloween decorations for the mansion,” Cullin noted.
