Frank Redmon has announced he will step down from his post as superintendent of the Quilcene School District in June.

Redmon submitted a letter of resignation at last week’s school board meeting.

School Board Chair Jessica Gossette said the board will discuss plans to find a new superintendent at an upcoming board meeting.

“I’ve enjoyed my time with Dr. Redmon,” said Gossette, who joined the school board in December 2019. “I have always found him very easy for me to work with. I will miss him greatly.”

Redmon joined the Quilcene district five years ago.

The school board voted in January to extend his contract through the 2024-2025 school year.

In his resignation letter, Redmon said he made the decision with “a heavy heart” and added it had been an honor to be superintendent. He said his last day is June 30.

“This decision has not been an easy one, but after much careful consideration and reflection, I have concluded that I will end my tenure with the Quilcene School District,” he wrote.

“I have been fortunate to work with an incredible team of educators, staff, and administrators who are committed to providing the best education possible for our students. Over the five years I have had the pleasure to serve as Quilcene’s Superintendent, we have increased opportunities for student learning and pathways to graduation. We have improved the physical plant and the learning environment for students. We have learned how to support all our learners better and ensure that all students have access to grade-level learning,” he added.

“We have made great relationships and created stronger connections between the school, our community, and the county.”

In his letter, he thanked the school board for its support.

“I also want to extend my appreciation to the staff, educators, and community members who have worked tirelessly to support our schools and our students. Please know that I will do everything in my power to ensure a smooth transition and to support the district during this time of change. I am confident that with the dedication and talent of our staff and educators, the district will continue to thrive and provide an excellent education for our students,” Redmon wrote.

The school board is scheduled to accept Redmon’s resignation at a work study session Wednesday.

“The board will be discussing our next steps and what we need to do going forward,” Gossette said.

Gossette noted it was late in the school year to start looking for a full-time superintendent.

“Speaking for myself, we’ll be looking to do the best possible scenario for our community,” she said, adding that public input will be welcome as the board moves forward.

“We know that change is always hard and we’ll try to make it as smooth as we can,” Gossette said of the transition.
