Quilcene Lantern hosts hard-rocking acts from Seattle, Poulsbo

The Quilcene Lantern is again partnering with Live Life Loud Presents to showcase an assortment of punk and hard rock artists from around the region, with their next event taking place this coming weekend.

Erik Kingfisher of Live Life Loud Presents, who also goes by DJ E-Rok, described his outfit as “a small DIY local production effort” that’s been helping organize “heavy rock” shows in the Port Townsend area for roughly the past decade.

On Saturday, March 15, the Quilcene Lantern will host Old Iron and Serial Hawk from Seattle, as well as Key Party from Poulsbo, which Kingfisher promised it would be “amazing.”

“It’s gonna feel good to have this heaviest of heavy shows here, in a barn, in the woods, in an inclusive space,” Kingfisher said. “Old Iron creates locked-in, deep, volcanic heavy songs that you feel in four dimensions. Serial Hawk builds huge songs that bulldoze, and can be atmospheric at the same time. And Key Party will be opening, with their magnetizing punk sounds.”

Of the evening’s three scheduled acts, Kingfisher noted that only Key Party has performed at the Quilcene Lantern before.

“I asked Old Iron if they’d like to come out to play, just because I really like their music,” Kingfisher said. “They are incredibly talented, and I think our community would like more of this kind of art form.”

According to Kingfisher, Old Iron then asked Serial Hawk to join them, “and I couldn’t be happier about that, because I’ve seen both these bands live, and they are really inspiring.”

Trent McIntyre from Old Iron told The Leader, “We are stoked to play at the Quilcene Lantern. We’ve heard great things.”

Old Iron is a three-piece band, with guitar, bass and drums, that bills itself as delivering “a no-frills combination of ruthless noise rock and bottom-heavy sludge.” It features “weighty riffs and malevolent stomp (that) tap into the same adrenaline-producing frequency as a battle cry.”

In particular, the band asserted that guitarist and vocalist Jesse Roberts’ “howl summons the same primitive visceral response as the Western Huns’ harrowing call-to-arms.”

Meanwhile, Will Bassin from Serial Hawk told The Leader, “We’re very excited to be able to play somewhere new outside of Seattle, where all ages are welcome, and the venue and atmosphere are so majestic!”

Serial Hawks describe their own music as “loud, swirling and hypnotic, with hammering riffs, an impeccable rhythm section and vocals that go perfectly with their pummeling wall of psychedelic sound.”
