Quilcene fastpitch, baseball head to state playoffs

Quilcene High School is sending two teams to the state playoffs this week starting May 16. The Ranger’s fastpitch softball team starts their bracket May 16 at 4 p.m. in Quilcene against the winners of the Pope John Paul II  vs. Wishkah Valley game May 14. If Quilcene wins, they advance to the championship game to be held at 3:15 p.m. May 18 in Bremerton. The Ranger’s baseball team begins their playoff journey against Colton at 10 a.m. May 18 at W.F. West High School. If Quilcene advances, they will play again at 4 p.m. Fastpitch Quilcene fastpitch softball ended its season 12-4, ranking first in its SeaTac League division. Also in the division, Rainier Christian finished 10-5; Pope John Paul II 4-4; Muckleshoot 4-9 and Evergreen Lutheran 0-8. During the last two games of the season, Quilcene beat Rainier Christian 24-11 on May 9 and Kingston 20-12 May 10. “The Quilcene Rangers wrapped up their ninth straight undefeated Sea-Tac league season with a three-hour scoring fest with second place Rainier Christian, outlasting the Mustangs 24-11,” Quilcene coach Mark Thompson said of the May 9 game. “The Coffey sisters Madison and Natalie combined for seven RBIs, and McKenzie Kieffer continued her hot hitting with  two RBIs and three runs scored. In the circle, Kayla Ward picked up her ninth win on the season by going four and two-thirds innings, yielding four earned runs. Natalie Coffey relieved Ward in the fourth inning and pitched an inning and a third.” Baseball Quilcene baseball ended its season 8-9, ranking fifth in its SeaTac League division. Also in the division, Evergreen Lutheran finished 13-3; Concordia Christian 13-5; Seattle Lutheran 12-6; Crosspoint 13-6; Tacoma Baptist 6-14; Pope John Paul II 3-11 and Muckleshoot 0-15.
