Quentin Roosevelt Wald, age 104, beloved father and husband, passed away August 24, 2024, at his home in Port Townsend, WA, surrounded by his three adult children.

He was born and raised in Free- port, New York, on Long Island and received undergraduate and master’s degrees from MIT. He had many colleagues and friends, and he did many and diverse things with his life. He was an accomplished engineer in fluid dynamics and made important early contributions to the development of airplanes, helicopters, and submarines.

He was a philosopher, writer of poetry and was proud to document the important aviation contributions of his father. He was an excellent craftsman in woodwork, metal work, enameling, and drawing. He was an expert sailor, having spent many years living aboard and sailing in the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, along the East Coast, and, later, in Puget Sound.

He was also a lover of dogs, having had at least seven over his lifetime. He spent his last 30 years in Port Townsend and was an admired citizen of that community. His pass- ing was noted at Port Townsend’s Wooden Boat Show annual Bell Ringing Ceremony to mark the End of Watch for mariners who have crossed the bar. It was a lovely sunny day with calm winds and out- ward-bound tides. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Deepest gratitude to his community for their love and support. In lieu of flowers, contributions could be made to the National Resources Defense Council. His personal email will be maintained for a year.
