Washington state will be eligible for federal disaster assistance for the severe winter storm that hit the state at the end of 2020, the Federal Emergency Management Agency announced Thursday.
Federal assistance will be available to Jefferson County and other counties across the state following the approval of a major disaster declaration by President Joseph R. Biden Jr.
FEMA said the President's decision makes federal funding available to the state, tribal and local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the winter storm in Clallam, Columbia, Grays Harbor, Island, Jefferson, Klickitat, Lewis, Mason, Okanogan, Pacific, Pend Oreille, Skagit, Skamania, Snohomish, Spokane and Wahkiakum counties.
Washington was hit by severe winter weather from Dec. 29 through Jan. 16 that included damaging winds, flooding, landslides, and mudslides.
FEMA said federal funding would also be available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide.
