The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 134 calls between Friday, April 7, and Thursday, April 13. Below are selected reports.

At 10:20 a.m. Sunday, April 9, a disturbance was reported at Fort Worden State Park, with officers being dispatched to handle a verbal dispute.

The caller was concerned about a woman not having enough car seats for her family, and the woman had been seen driving with a baby in her lap.

A woman could be heard yelling at the caller, and the caller said a man came out of the minivan and “looked like he wanted to fight.”

Officers spoke to the caller, and the minivan had already left the park.

No criminal activity was reported, but the caller was concerned about the woman and man’s transportation choices. The situation had deescalated by the time the officers arrived. 

At 2:30 a.m. Monday, April 10, suspicious activity was reported in the 900 block of Sheridan Street in front of the hospital.

A security guard reported a man who was seen dragging a large trash can down the street, picking up trash and items and putting them in the can.

The security guard said the trash can didn’t belong to the man and was paper-only. Officers patrolled the area, but didn’t locate the man.

At 7:10 p.m. Monday, April 10, in the 500 block of Sheridan Street, a welfare check was requested for a man who appeared to be intoxicated.

The man was in a van and was moving side to side and hitting his head on the steering wheel. The windows of the van appeared to be broken. Officers were unable to locate the man. 

At 8:20 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, a report of malicious mischief was made in the 600 block of Hancock Street. Somebody had tore the front part of a washing machine off in an attempt to access money inside.

Nothing else appeared to be damaged. Officers spoke to the building manager and took a report of the incident. There is no suspect. 

At 10:50 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, a case of potential fraud was reported by a resident in the 1200 block of Hancock Street.

The resident had received a check for $95,000 in the mail, and was advised to cash the check and mail in cash to the sender. An officer advised the man that it was a common scam, and the resident agreed.

At 2:50 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, suspicious circumstances were reported in the 2500 block of Evans Vista.

In the woods behind the Department of Social and Health Services building, a woman was reportedly screaming, “Get away from me” and “Leave me alone.”

The caller could also hear a man yelling.

Officers searched the woods, which has multiple homeless encampments, but were unable to hear or locate the screaming woman.

At 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, in the 1400 block of Jackman Street, a caller reported seeing a man spray-painting a fire hydrant and the middle of the road.

The man was throwing rocks around. Officers arrived on scene, noted the damage to the street and hydrant, and located the man.

The man admitted to spray-painting the fire hydrant and street. The damage didn’t amount to a felony (minimum of $750) and the man was issued a criminal citation.
