The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 156 calls between Friday, June 17, and Thursday, June 23. Below are selected reports.

At 5:43 p.m. Friday, June 17, a man in the 100 block of F Street was attempting to steal from a money box at a nearby farmstand. The man appeared to be in his 50s or 60s and used a tool to break into the money box, then left in a black Subaru vehicle. Officers located the man in the Subaru at the Safeway parking lot. He was contacted by the officers and given a citation.

At 9:50 p.m. Friday, June 17, a dead deer was seen in the 2600 block of East Sims Way, located in the middle of the road. It was described as a large buck and officers notified the city to come and remove the carcass.

At 5:20 p.m. Saturday, June 18, a caller near the 12th Street and Landes Street intersection asked police to check on a man who appeared to be unwell. The caller said the man was stumbling around and had blood on his face. Officers arrived at the scene but were unable to locate the man.

At 1:30 a.m. Sunday, June 19, in the 1900 block of Blaine Street, a driver called the police department to report himself driving under the influence. He told dispatch that he’d been drinking and driving, didn’t know where he was, and was having a hard time with life.

Officers located him in the parking lot of the police station and conducted a standardized field sobriety test. The man was placed in custody for driving under the influence.

At 6:20 a.m. Monday, June 20, a caller in the 2100 block of Washington Street reported a man who was screaming near a business. He had a pink hat on and appeared to be pushing a cart full of his belongings.

Officers arrived in the area and warned the man about screaming at people or cars in public. No crime had been committed and the officers left.

At 8 a.m. Monday, June 20, in the 100 block of Taylor Street, a construction employee reported a suspected theft overnight at the nearby construction site. Video surveillance showed a suspect entering the construction zone around 2 a.m.

It was unknown what was stolen from there, but the video showed the thief leaving with a large bag. After looking at the video, police identified the suspected thief. Officers drove to the suspect’s home, identified him there, and identified the stolen goods. The man had taken paint, scrap wood, and plastic. The reporting party chose not to pursue theft charges and the man was let go.
