The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 123 calls between Friday, Dec. 30, and Thursday, Jan. 5. Below are selected reports.

At 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31 in the 300 block of West Sims Way, a passerby reported seeing someone standing by the road and throwing rocks at passing cars. The reporting party said the man appeared to be intoxicated.

Officers located the man but did not see him throw anything.

At 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31 in the 600 block of Cleveland Street, officers spoke with two women who claimed one of their wallets had been stolen at a bar in downtown Port Townsend. They said the wallet had $3,000 in it.

The following morning, officers visited the bar, and the staff had placed the wallet in a safe overnight. Officers retrieved the wallet and returned it to the women.

At 12:45 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 1, a fireworks complaint was made in the 1000 block of Hancock Street. The caller heard three loud bangs nearby.

At 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 1 in the 300 block of West Sims Way, an unwanted person was reported at a nearby fast food chain who was refusing to leave.

The man, a transient, had caused a disturbance and was harassing customers. Officers contacted the man across the street and issued a trespass admonishment.

At 12 a.m. Monday, Jan. 2, a noise complaint was made in the 4000 block of Hill Street after someone reported a loud high school party.

The reporting party attempted to call the property manager to no avail. Officers knocked on the door multiple times and heard people talking inside. Someone eventually opened the door.

The officers warned the person about the noise.

A voicemail was left for the parents. 

At 5:15 a.m. Monday, Jan. 2, an alarm sounded at a bank in the 1000 block of Landes Street. Officers arrived and found it was a false alarm.

There were no signs of entry and nobody was inside.

At 12:18 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2 in the 800 block of Sheridan Street, a welfare check was requested for a patient who had left the hospital with an IV still in his arm.

Another caller said they saw the man stumbling on Hancock Street before falling in the grass. Officers found the man and assisted him back to the hospital.

At 1:27 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2, a theft was reported at a hardware store in the 200 block of West Sims Way. Employees reported a $60 bucket of paint was stolen. Officers contacted the suspected thief, who said he was going to pay for the paint once he returned to buy another can. He said the line was too long in the store and walked out. The paint was returned to the store and the man was cited for theft.

At 1:17 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3 in the 1500 block of 19th Street, an attempted break-in was reported.

Someone had tried to force their way into a storage room at the business with a door jam. Officers searched the business but didn’t locate the intruder, who’d failed to get into the storage room.

At 4:18 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, malicious mischief was reported in the 2300 block of West Sims Way.

The reporting party’s car had broken down and the person left it unlocked for the towing company to retrieve.

Someone had tried unsuccessfully to steal the vehicle. The car’s plastic panel and gear shift were missing and the emergency brake was disconnected.

At 12 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4 in the 600 block of G Street, a caller told police that sawhorses and tires were stolen from the building. Officers noted that the building’s lock was cut off by the thief to gain entry.

At 10:50 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, a burglary was reported in the 1300 block of Seventh Street after the reporting party got a phone alert that included video of an unknown person in the person’s garage.

The suspect was wearing all black with blue jeans and appeared to be picking up tools. Officers searched the building and found the door left ajar. Nobody was located inside.

At 7 a.m. the next day, the reporting party informed police that two suspects, a man and woman, had returned and taken more items. The crime is currently under investigation.

At 12:45 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, a caller in the 1900 block of Third Street reported seeing a man opening mailboxes the day before.

The caller found mail tossed in a bush 50 feet away from the caller’s mailbox. Officers advised the person to keep an eye out for future mail theft attempts. There is no suspect.
