The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 169 calls between Friday, Jan. 20, and Thursday, Jan. 26. Below are selected reports.

At 9:50 a.m. Friday, Jan. 20, suspicious activity was reported in the 2600 block of East Sims Way. A caller noted seeing a man who appeared to be carrying a rifle wrapped in dark fabric. He was dressed in black with a green backpack and was seen walking to Kah Tai Lagoon from a nearby gas station. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the man.

At 2:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, in the 1200 block of Landes Street, a woman told police she thinks she was scammed by YouTube. She told law enforcement she was trying to cancel her subscription to the video streaming service and had $400 taken out of her bank account. Police contacted her, and she later confirmed that no actual fraud had occurred.

At 6:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, a man in the 400 block of West Sims Way was trespassed out of a grocery store after employees claimed he’d been bothering and harassing them.

The man, later identified as a high-schooler, was described as wearing a hoodie and light-colored sweatpants. No threats had been made and the high school boy was verbally trespassed by the store manager. The high-schooler told the manager he believes that only law enforcement can trespass him from the business. The teen had left the area by the time officers arrived, and the officers were unable to fully trespass him.

At 10:55 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, in the 200 block of Battery Way, a report was made of a man threatening to beat up the reporting party’s friend. The man had been drinking and was set up at the Fort Worden campgrounds.

Officers spoke with the reporting party, who is a juvenile, and confirmed probable cause for arresting the man. The man was booked into jail for disorderly conduct.

At 11:20 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, a theft was reported in the 400 block of West Sims Way after a man in baggy clothes was seen on video stealing from a grocery store.

It was unknown what the man took, but the store had video evidence. Officers made a complete report of the theft the next morning and will review the video surveillance.

At 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, in the 1400 block of Landes Street, a caller reported a stolen front license plate. It was unknown when the plate was stolen, but the caller was provided a case number and advised to contact the state licensing department.

At 3:55 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, a theft was reported in the 2800 block of Jefferson Street after a $4,000 propeller was stolen from a ship in the boatyard.

The theft likely occurred over the last week. There were no cameras in the area, and there is no known suspect at this time.
