The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 147 calls between Friday, Nov. 5, and Thursday, Nov. 11. Below are selected reports.

At 2 a.m. Friday, Nov. 5, at the1800 block of Water Street, a caller claimed a man was causing disturbances from midnight onward. The man was told by a manager to go to his room, but the antagonist chest-bumped the manager four times and claimed that he had a firearm.

Officers responded, and the man said he was intimidated by the uniforms and the fact that they carried guns. The man had been drinking.

Officers did not see a gun on his person.

At 5 a.m. Friday, Nov. 5, a white Tesla was located in the 700 block of Kearney Street with flashing lights and a man slumped over the wheel. The vehicle had sustained damage and was missing a mirror.

His blood alcohol content was more than the legal limit. He was arrested on physical control, taken into custody, and booked.

At 8 a.m. Friday, Nov. 5, the principal of Salish Coast Elementary School reported that the day previous at approximately
12:40 p.m. a man was seen in the bushes near the school by the staff parking lot. There were images of the man from security footage.

The principal also recounted that two boys from school had seen a man that same day on crutches, who didn’t appear to need them. They were scared and ran the rest of the way to school.

At 10:24 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, a caller reported that in October, her bank account had been hacked and $1,800 was removed from the account.

The woman believed the caller who hoodwinked her was with Apple, and she gave her Social Security and bank account numbers to the caller.

At 1:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, a city worker reported graffiti on the old ferry dock, but did not say what it was.

The city quickly covered up the offending art.

At  5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, a caller near the 3200 block of Water Street claimed that someone had tried to steal her dog out of her arms after she refused to sell the dog for $20, and that they threatened to pull a shotgun on her. An officer arrived on scene, but could not locate the caller, and her phone went to voicemail.

When finally contacted, the woman said she was in the bathroom for privacy.

Officers asked her to leave the bathroom, and confirmed the woman has a history of mental health issues.

At 7:20 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, a woman asked for a welfare check on her husband, who lived in the 4700 block of Mason Street. She was out of town and could not reach him. She was concerned because he had a history of medical issues and is unsteady on his feet.

Officers made contact, and the woman’s husband said he hadn’t heard the phone ring but that he’d call his wife.

At 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, a caller from the Banana Leaf Thai restaurant reported that 13 pounds of beef and duck breast, and 5 pounds of scallops, had been taken from the freezer. There was no sign of damage to the freezer unit.

The estimated value of the stolen meat was $500. There was no camera footage, and no suspect.

At 1 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6,  the Jefferson County Fairgrounds camp host reported he believed that a current resident of the Mill Road open air shelter had dumped garbage at the fairgrounds 20 minutes earlier. Based on a description of the vehicle provided by the caller, officers were able to locate the truck in a parking lot at Salish Coast Elementary School.

The man had meth on his person, but didn’t want any services. Resource leaflets were provided. He was cited and released.

At 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, a woman from Sequim called to say her son had run away. She alerted officers around the area of the 600 block of Water Street. The boy was headed to the old dock, but eventually met up with the mother.

They left for Sequim together.

At 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, an altercation in the 2100 block of Sims Way was reported.

A man driving a truck had his window smashed out by a guy with a skateboard, an orange beard, and a beanie. The two encountered each other at the Reefer Den; the skateboarder charged the owner of the truck, who kicked at him, causing him to flee the scene.

The skateboarder is known to officers. The last information reported was that the two men were both “mellowing out.”

At 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, an uncooperative man, after being arrested for malicious mischief and fourth-degree assault, intentionally slammed his head into the concrete sidewalk, cutting himself.

He was taken to the emergency room and cleared for jail.

At 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, a theft was reported at Safeway. A shoplifter had been caught on video earlier in the day, and he was already trespassed from the property.

Officers picked up the video for review.

At 9 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, a caller from the area of Sheridan and 19th streets reported that a person was driving in and out of the ditch, and had nearly struck two parked vehicles and was passing cars on San Juan Avenue.

The car pulled in to Life Care Center, and the county sheriff was present to make the arrest for DUI.

At 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, a woman reported that her 15-year-old son was making suicidal statements and was carrying a knife from the kitchen. A man could be heard crying in the background.

The teen was transported by officers to the emergency room, and the mother followed in her car.

At 1:50 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 9, a caller in the 1200 block of Water Street reported two dogs left outside a restaurant. A transient man claimed his dogs and moved on.

At 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, a caller in the 1500 block of Sims Way reported hearing a gunshot just after a man had talked about killing himself.

The man was known to have an AR-15 in his possession and he lived alone. Officers arrived on scene and requested aid and a coroner. The victim’s mother was notified.

The man was in his 20s, and lived and worked in the area.

At 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, a caller in the 600 block of Water Street reported graffiti in the public bathrooms. Someone had written “tester” and “tester 1” on the walls of the men’s restrooms with a Sharpie.

At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Nov. 10, a woman in the 1700 block of Wilson Street brought in some lightweight packages for police to open.

She said they were addressed to her, but she had not ordered them, and she worried about their contents. Earrings and jewelry were found in one box; the other contained a device for pleasuring women. She left with all of the items.

At 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, a man at the shelter located in the American Legion was asked to leave after becoming verbally abusive to staff and clients. Officers arrived and issued a trespass notice and escorted the man off of the property.

The man complained that he was being harassed by other people in the shelter.
