Port Townsend Police Log | Almost stole the Honda

The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 134 calls between Friday, April 7, and Thursday, April 13. Below are selected reports.

At 10 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, a welfare check was requested for a man in the 300 block of West Sims Way, who appeared to be suffering from a possible drug overdose.

Officers arrived and determined the man was in Kah Tai Lagoon Nature Park. Multiple people were in the park and appeared to be intoxicated.

The man who appeared to be suffering from an overdose had taken fentanyl, but was now up, walking, and alert.

The officers determined someone at the scene had given him Narcan. The people at the park were issued a trespass notice from the park for seven days. The officers called a local recovery response team to come to the scene and aid the man. 

At 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, a court order violation was reported in the 3000 block of Hastings Avenue, with a man barricading himself inside a trailer.

Officers went to the location to serve a protection order to the man.

Officers forced their way into the trailer and took the man into custody. He was arrested on violation of a protection order and obstructing law enforcement. The man was booked into jail.

At 5:50 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, at Sather Park in Uptown, a person complained about a motorbike on the park trail. Officer searched the park, but the motorbike rider was no longer there.

At 12:10 a.m. Thursday, April 13, an unwanted person was reported at a grocery store in the area. An employee said there was an ongoing problem with the man harassing customers. The man was in a black SUV outside the store when officers arrived.

The officers learned the man had used fighting words toward customers in the business, and he was arrested for two counts of disorderly conduct.

At 8:20 a.m. Thursday, April 13, in the 1900 block of Blaine Street, someone appeared to have attempted an auto theft.

A caller said the suspect appeared to be under the influence and tried to break into a Honda Civic that was parked nearby.

The suspect appeared to get into the Honda. Officers arrived and searched the car, but nobody was around. The Honda was unlocked with the keys left on the driver’s seat.

At 4:55 p.m. Thursday, April 13, a dog bite was reported in the 2600 block of Jefferson Street.

At the marina, a dog appeared to be running around the area nipping and attempting to bite people. The canine was described as mostly black with patches and having a blue leash.

The dog bit the caller’s foot. The caller refused aid, and the officers didn’t locate the canine.

At 10:30 p.m. Thursday, April 13, in the 1200 block of Hancock Street, a resident reported seeing a drunk driver attempting to drive past a dead end.

The car was high-centered on a boulder, and the resident observed the driver stumble out of the car after revving the engine. The vehicle was a green Subaru Outback.

Officers located the Subaru and activated their emergency lights, and the driver appeared to be trying to flee.

The driver, a teenage boy, eventually complied with the police. The officers noted the teen smelled like alcohol and he was ordered out of the car.

He was arrested for driving under the influence.
