Port officials will meet with representatives from the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation on Feb. 26 to discuss preservation of the historic Point Hudson Marina and its surrounding buildings. 

The meeting, which will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Port Commission building at 333 Benedict St., is open to the public. 

The Washington Trust for Historic Preservation is the non-profit tapped to coordinate the new Maritime Washington National Heritage Area, which includes historic, coastal towns across the Puget Sound, including Point Hudson. 

The port and the Washington Trust are considering a partnership agreement through which both entities work together to maintain Point Hudson’s historic waterfront character, port director Jim Pivarnik said in a press release. 

Chris Moore, executive director of the Washington Trust, together with Pivarnik and all three elected Port commissioners, are expected to be on hand for the meeting.

Among other issues, the Wednesday meeting could result in an agreement between the port

and the Washington Trust to study the potential of a long-term lease of Point Hudson. Research and discussions about such an arrangement could take two years or more. 

Involvement of the Washington Trust or another entity could open up avenues for new grant funds that could be used for Point Hudson’s capital infrastructure, Pivarnik said.
