The Port Townsend Police Department responded to a total of 179 calls from Oct. 10-16, and conducted 40 traffic stops.
Calls such as domestic violence and suicides are left out of the call log, so as not to retraumatize victims and loved ones.
Oct. 10: Officers assisted Public Works at a DSHS campground, checking on the provided dumpsters.
Oct. 11: Officers responded to a report of a Chihuahua running loose in the roadway on Sims Way near Rainier Street. The dog was gone on officers’ arrival.
• Officers met citizens at the “Fire Fest” event. It was a good opportunity for our newest team member to meet members of the community.
• Police received a report of aggressive driving, at high speeds and passing cars on the shoulder, near Sims Way and Mill Road. Officers located the car and contacted the driver.
• A theft of a money box from a vehicle was reported. The owner called back, about an hour later, and reported finding it misplaced.
• Officers contacted an unhoused individual, who was resting in his car with his dog, to warn him about a coyote that had been observed directly outside his car, to ensure the safety of his animal.
Oct. 12: Officers responded to a reported violation of a court order between neighbors on 49th Street. Probable cause for the violation was developed and routed to the prosecutor’s office for charging.
• Officers responded to a medical emergency, and found the patient unresponsive with no pulse. Officers started and performed CPR until medics arrived.
• Officers stopped a vehicle near 20th and San Juan Avenue for driving 41 in a 25 mile-per-hour zone. The windshield of the vehicle was obstructed by markers. An officer issued an infraction for the violations.
Oct. 13: Officers responded to a report of a near-collision, in which impairment was suspected. Officers located the vehicle off the roadway and determined there was no impairment, but rather, a mechanical failure of the vehicle led to a loss of control.
Oct. 14: Police received a citizen complaint about an unhoused person living in a van, who moved onto their parking lot. Officers contacted the individuals, and contacted resources for them. Community partners assisted in moving the vehicle to a safe location.
• A local retailer reported liquor was stolen by several juveniles. The juveniles were caught in the area with two large bottles of hard liquor. In the past two months, there has been a significant increase in incidents involving youth and alcohol. Law enforcement and our community partners are working to encourage retailers to secure their liquor, and to protect the children in our community.
Oct. 15: Additional violations of court orders were reported and investigated, involving the same neighbors as the call on Oct. 12. Officers were initially unable to contact the suspect, but ultimately located and arrested them.
• A local retailer found a baggie containing a suspicious white substance. If it belongs to you, please come see us at the Port Townsend Police Department and verify the weight of the bag, so that we can ensure it belongs to you.
Oct. 16: A blue Motorola phone was reported lost. It has the last name of the owner engraved on it. Please contact the Port Townsend Police Department if you locate this phone, so it can be returned to the rightful owner.
