Port Townsend police received 126 calls for service between Monday, Dec. 21 and Sunday, Dec. 27. Below are selected reports.

At 9:42 a.m. Dec. 21, officers received a report of vandalism over the weekend. A caller reported that businesses in the 1000 block of Lawrence Street had been egged. Police have no suspects at this time. Damages were only estimated at the cost of cleanup time.

At 12:21 p.m. Dec. 21, a business in the 900 block of Park Avenue reported that a theft had occurred overnight. An unknown person came into a beer garden at the business and stole two umbrellas and canopy stands. The total value of the stolen property has been estimated at $200. Police have no suspects at this time.

At 2:45 p.m. Dec. 21, police were alerted to pile of mail found near 22nd and Landes streets. The caller told police that the mail had been returned to the owner and said other neighbors would be warned to bring their mail in during the day.

At 7:17 a.m. Dec. 22, police received a report of another pile of opened mail from various locations that was discovered in the 600 block of Tyler Street. It was determined by an officer that the mail had been stolen from various addresses throughout the area. Police have no suspects at this time.

At 11:58 p.m. Dec. 22, police received a report of a man and woman breaking windows near the Highway 20 Roadhouse. Officers arrived at the scene and detained a man, while a woman took off on foot into a nearby wooded area. An officer pursued the woman, who then became combative and tried to kick the officer in the groin. The woman also twisted the officer’s fingers during her apprehension. The woman was arrested for third-degree assault, two charges of malicious mischief and resisting arrest.

At 11:18 a.m. Dec. 23, police were alerted to a burglary that had happened overnight at a business in the 800 block of Water Street after an unknown person kicked in a rear door. Stolen in the incident were an iPhone and computers used by the business. Total damages and value of the stolen items was estimated $1,500.

At 8:38 p.m. Dec. 23, a man called police to report a woman in the 500 block of Hendricks Street who was removing mail from multiple mailboxes. The caller described the woman as wearing white snow boots, a heavy black coat, walking a dog and wearing a hat. Officers arrived but were unable to locate any suspects.

At 10 a.m. Dec. 24, police received a report that someone had cut back metal siding to gain entry to a storage building at Fort Worden that was adjacent to the pavilion. Police believe that the person attempted to steal several stage speakers and other equipment but could not remove the items due to the narrow hole used to gain entry to the building. Officers were unable to determine if anything else had been taken in the break-in.

At 10:19 a.m. Dec. 24, another caller reported more evidence of mail theft in the 2200 block of Landes Street. Police were advised that multiple residences along the street reported mail missing. Police advise that outgoing mail be dropped off at the post office or placed in a secure mailbox.

At 12:31 p.m. Dec. 24, more mail theft was reported in the 1100 block of 20th Street. Among the items taken from the packages were a set of paintbrushes.

Some of the mail was recovered by a neighbor as it was blowing down the street. Police noted that increased mail theft is fairly typical around the holidays.

At 8:39 a.m. Dec. 26, a man called police to inform them that his vehicle had likely been prowled after he found his own backpack in the 300 block of Sims Way. The man told police that he had been unaware of any theft until he saw his backpack behind a business. He found other items that belonged to him scattered about the area. Surveillance video is being reviewed. The man told police he did not believe his doors were locked at the time of the prowl.

At 2:38 p.m. Dec. 27, a camp host in the 4900 block of Landes Street told police that an unknown person removed all the money from a pay collection site. It is unknown how much money was taken in the incident.
