Total calls April 25 through May 1 : 149 including 29 traffic stops. Note: Calls such as domestic violence, suicides etc. are left out of the call log as to not retraumatize victims and loved ones.

April 25:

• A scammer impersonating a fraud inspector at a local bank contacted the victim and defrauded him of nearly $9,000. The victim withdrew the cash from his bank account and deposited it into an ATM at another local bank, believing the money would be safer in the new account. The scammer had obtained publicly available information on the victim and used it to convince the victim to open a new bank account at another bank to deposit the cash. PTPD is investigating the incident.

• A vehicle was prowled in the 200 block of Washington St. An unknown suspect made entry into a camper on top of a pickup truck and stole valuables. PTPD is investigating.

• PTPD officers working the night shift observed a vehicle fail to maintain lane in the roundabout at Thomas St./ W Sims Way. Officers stopped the vehicle and contacted the driver who initially refused to identify himself, and claimed it is not required to present a valid Operator’s License to law enforcement officers. The driver was reminded that driving is a privilege, not a right, and he needed an Operator’s License to ‘operate’ a motor vehicle on a public roadway, and the alternative is being placed under arrest. The driver eventually identified himself and was discovered to be driving while license suspended. The driver was issued a criminal citation and several traffic infractions before being released.

April 26:

• At QFC in the 500 block of Sheridan St., a heavily intoxicated person lost his balance and fell backwards on his head, sustaining an injury that required treatment. The patient, who was conscience and breathing, was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

April 27:

• An argument erupted between two players playing golf at the Port Townsend golf course, causing a disturbance. PTPD Officers responded and determined there was no crime, and the argument was about game etiquette and rules.

• PTPD officers responded to a report of fireworks, shots fired, and explosions heard in the area of San Juan Avenue and F St. Officers tracked down the continuous loud pops to the 1300 block of Hastings Ave. where the vehicle was located. Officers stopped the vehicle and identified the driver, who is a habitual unlicensed driver, had been warned several times not to drive without a license, particularly the vehicle he was driving which is known to backfire due to its bad repair condition. The driver was placed under arrest and transported to jail for driving unlicensed without providing identification to a law enforcement officer. The driver was also issued several notices of infraction for defective vehicle equipment violations.

April 28:

• PTPD officers responded to the 1300 block of 7TH St. for an active structure fire with smoke and flames seen. Prior to firefighters arriving on scene, PTPD officers made entry into the affected apartment and ensured it was evacuated. They then safely evacuated the other apartments. The sprinkler system put out the flames. The Fire Department took over the scene from PTPD. No injuries were reported to PTPD.

April 29:

• PTPD officers responded to a report of smoke bellowing from an outdoor shed in the 1300 block of 14TH St.  The shed was unoccupied. There were no active flames, only smoke. Firefighters were able to knock down the fire.

• PTPD officers responded to a report of an assault with injuries in the 1900 block of Sherman St. Two intoxicated neighbors had an argument that resulted in a physical altercation. Neither party wanted to pursue charges and were uncooperative with law enforcement.

April 30:

• PTPD responded to a report of malicious mischief at the Boat Haven boat yard. Upon investigation, the suspect admitted to dragging a construction trailer across the boat yard with the jack lowered, creating hazardous conditions and damaging another trailer. The suspect was issued a citation.

May 1:

• A residential burglary occurred in the 1000 block of Nora Porter Loop. The residence was not occupied. The suspect found the hidden house key somehow and made entry into the house. The suspect took check books, laptop, ID cards, and other items. No suspect information at this time.
