Port Townsend Police Department responded to 135 calls between Dec. 20-26. Included in the mix were seven suspicious persons/ vehicles, seven disturbances, including domestic violence, 25 traffic stops, and one burglary. 

 

Dec. 20:  Officers responded to a harassment complaint in the 1900 block of Eddy St. The RP (reporting party) stated they were in a vehicle collision months ago and the male driver keeps returning to their house and yelling at the RP. Officers tracked down the offender, contacted him at his house and issued a trespass admonishment.

– Officers conducted 5 traffic stops during the evening hours in various areas of the city.

– A disturbance was reported when a former renter showed up at a residence just before midnight and demanded his belongings. Officers we able to de-escalate the situation and get both parties to agree to allowing the male to pick up his belongings at an agreed upon time and date in the future.

Dec. 21:  A teen was assaulted at the skate park after having a verbal altercation with another teen. Officers arrested the attacker, and charges were referred to the prosecutor. The victim suffered minor injuries.

– A male subject was reported to be screaming at staff and customers at the Penny Saver. Officers contacted the suspect, issued him a trespass admonishment and had him leave the property.

– An organized retail theft occurred at Safeway when a male and female used strong magnets to overcome security devices. The felony crime is under investigation.

Dec. 22: Police were called when a male subject was escalating and making threats in the emergency room. The subject was arrested and charged with Harassment and Interfering with a healthcare facility.

– A traffic complaint was reported with a male screaming in the parking lot of 1300 W. Sims Way. The male left in a silver Jetta. An officer spotted the vehicle parked near the DSHS building. No yelling or criminal behavior was observed.

Dec. 23: A vehicle collision was reported to have occurred in the parking lot on 12/21. The reporting party stated they didn’t initially report it but needed to turn in the rental car. The RP could not remember where they had parked. NOTE to public: Report any hit and run accident immediately so it can be properly investigated.

– A fraud report was taken when a resident stated there were 7 fraudulent charges totaling $447 on his credit card. The officer also provided the RP with information to file an additional report to IC3.gov (the FBI’s internet crime division).

Dec. 24: A second theft was revealed after officers reviewed surveillance video used as evidence on a previous theft arrest at Henery’s Hardware. The thief had become alarmed when contacted by employees and tossed all his merchandise on the ground except for a $30 pair of suspenders which he stole. He later called the store to complain, where his name and phone number were captured on caller ID.

  A phone was reported missing by a county deputy’s mother-in-law. The deputy pinged the phone and reported the location to PTPD. Officers were able to recover the phone which was left in a laundromat. The phone was returned to its owner.

Dec. 25:  A burglary occurred on Christmas day when the homeowner returned and reported people were in their house, who then left in a blue Acura SUV.

Dec. 26: Officers conducted 13 traffic stops throughout the city.

  A female driver was arrested on her outstanding warrant and suspended driver’s license when she was stopped for driving with expired tabs.
