Port Townsend Police responded to 152 calls between Oct. 18 and Oct. 24.
Oct. 18: Officers contacted two people living in their cars in the 300 block of Benedict Street, after receiving complaints of trash and urinating in public. They were warned of the city’s 24-hour parking ordinance, and they agreed to comply.
• Officers conducted six traffic stops for various violations throughout the city.
• A man was arrested for his outstanding warrants in the 1200 block of West Sims Way after an officer recognized him while he was walking. During the search incident to arrest, officers discovered drug paraphernalia on the man. He was booked into the county jail.
Oct. 19: A resident reported a fraud after his debit card had two false charges. The first charge was for 82 cents, the second for $165.04. The officer helped the victim contact his bank and cancel the card. NOTE: There will be a scam and fraud prevention class at the Port Townsend Police Department on Nov. 20 from 5-6 p.m.
Oct. 20: A parent called police to report their children, aged 12 and 16, were fighting. Officers investigated the incident and determined that no crime had occurred when the children had a dispute over art supplies. The mother was upset that her son was not arrested. She was given de-escalation guidance.
Oct. 21: Officers contacted multiple trespassers on posted wetlands. They were given a deadline date to leave or face arrest.
• A citizen reported seeing a teenaged female that had an outstanding warrant. Officers located the teen, confirmed the warrant and arrested her.
Oct. 22: Officers took a theft report about a bike stolen from the Food Co-op. The bike had been secured with a chain, but the thief cut it. The case is under investigation.
• Officers responded to a disturbance at the hospital with reports of a woman throwing things and refusing to leave. Officers were familiar with the suspect, who was intoxicated and has mental health issues. Officers assisted by helping de-escalate the subject, and gave her a courtesy ride to where her belongings were located.
Oct. 23: A PTPD officer assisted a Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy during a DUI arrest at the 2600 block of East Sims Way. The driver was booked into the county jail.
• A citizen reported observing someone doing graffiti in the skatepark, then leaving on a bus. Officers identified the teen through surveillance video. The teen was contacted, along with his family. Arrangements are being made for community service and cleaning up the graffiti.
• Officers conducted six traffic stops throughout the day for various violations, including DUI and reckless driving.
Oct. 24: Officers took another fraud report after the victim’s personal information was compromised. The suspect’s caller ID was from Kenya and they tried to convince the victim to send $45,000 via a phone call. NOTE: There will be a scam and fraud prevention class at the Port Townsend Police Department on Nov. 20 from 5-6 p.m. Seating is limited.
• Officers responded to a burglar alarm on Lake Street. It was determined to be operator error as the cleaning crew set it off. This was the sixth false alarm this week, all from different locations.
