Peninsula College’s Tidepools names its 2023 contest winners

Seven artists in Jefferson County were among the winners in Tidepools Magazine’s 2023 art, photography, writing, and music contest.

Tidepools Magazine has been published annually at Peninsula College since 1964 and features original art, photography, poetry, prose, and music created by residents of the North Olympic Peninsula in Clallam and Jefferson counties.

Tidepools is created in collaboration by Peninsula College students who edit, design, layout, and publish the magazine while learning about publishing, marketing, community relations.

Winning entries will be published in the 59th issue of Tidepools, which is slated for release in early June. The magazine will be available in local shops across the Peninsula.

Contributors to the magazine are also invited to present their work with the community at the launch party tentatively scheduled for the evening of Friday, June 2.

Jefferson County winners, their categories, and entries are:

Youth Art 0-9

First Place: “Marigold and the Angel Dog” by Tzivia Reeder from Port Hadlock-Irondale.

PC Student Art & Digital Art

Second Place: “AI Nature Girl” by Catherine Barrows from Chimacum.

PC Student Photography

Third Place: “Among the Fae” by Sam Chonko from Port Hadlock.

Adult Art & Digital Art

First Place: “Flicker” by George Seifert from Port Townsend.

Adult Poetry

First Place: “I Know Heaven” by Trudy Roush from Port Townsend

Third Place: “For My Beloved Wife, Shelly, On Her Birthday: by Dennis Kelly from Port Ludlow.

Adult Photography

Honorable Mention: “Misty Morning with Guinea Fowl” by Pam Bauer from Port Townsend.
