Jefferson County commissioners agreed to appoint Guy Dobyns to the county’s Conservation Futures Oversight Committee at their meeting this week.

Dobyns, who moved to Quilcene from Olympia a year ago, will represent District 3 on the committee. He previously ran a social center/print shop before it closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and has guided hiking and backpacking trips for the Wildland Trekking Company in the Olympic, Cascades and Mount Rainier national parks.

He is also an instructor for the National Outdoor Leadership School’s Wilderness Medicine Institute, teaching wilderness first aid classes. According to county staff, he is also passionate about wetland and forestland preservation, as well as growing and promoting fruit and nut tree cultivation.

As part of their consent approval Monday, commissioners appointed Dobyns to a four-year term on the committee.
