On the last Saturday in June I decide to join others on a morning bird walk.
This was a challenging wonderful adventure for me to do learning and listening to over 23 species of birds, right here in Kai Tai Lagoon. And then to re-discover the green bench I had donated many years ago overlooking the duck pond where mallards and drakes come by.
Years ago I had that bench dedicated to my grandfather since he first took me to feed the ducks every Sunday at Rockefeller Park in my hometown of Lakewood, New Jersey where the Lenape Indians first settled.
So someone stole that plaque and this morning how much I loved sitting and feeding the ducks and ducklings small bread crumbs and singing to them.
Our lives are filled with such special moments in time and this Saturday — on a very, very hot Saturday — the trails were cool and filled with bikers and walkers and birders appreciating the beauty right here in Port Townsend where we are blessed with so many kinds of people who not only know the names of birds but how to stop and take time to just listen to their music.
Next time I will find the right kind of binoculars and next time I will be thankful for those that reach out to share their knowledge and experience with others.
Saturdays can be full of surprises and joys on a summer morning!
