Organizers call off Brinnon ShrimpFest

The tale has turned once again for the Brinnon ShrimpFest.

Organizers of the annual event announced earlier this month the shrimply shindig would be held this year.

But Rhonda Burell, president of the Emerald Towns Alliance, said in an email Friday their primary fundraiser would not be held as hoped this May.

“Due to COVID challenges and unforeseen circumstances, 2021 ShrimpFest has been cancelled,” Burell said.

One unexpected surprise was storage space for the shrimp.

“At the time we were given notice of the delivery of shrimp, we learned the storage freezer was not operational,” she added. “We were unable to identify enough commercial freezer space.”

“As a community we are disappointed that we had to cancel the festival. We thank the volunteers, businesses, and schools for their support,” Burell said.
