A 37-year-old Nordland man was arrested early Tuesday morning for burglary and theft from a building after he led police on a high-speed chase on Highway 20.
Deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office investigated a report of a suspicious vehicle near Otto Street in Port Townsend after someone reported a dark SUV with its lights going on and off.
The caller also reported a man walking around a building in the area.
A deputy found the vehicle but the driver immediately tried to get away.
The sheriff's office said the driver sped away from the traffic stop and hit speeds of 100 mph on Highway 20.
When the vehicle slowed for a turn, an officer performed a PIT maneuver (pursuit intervention technique) and tried to get the vehicle to stop.
The driver ran into the woods nearby, but he was quickly found and detained.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, the man was allegedly driving under the influence and had fentanyl, a synthetic opioid, in his possession.
Authorities also said he had several stolen items in his possession.
He was booked into the Jefferson County Jail just after 2:30 a.m. Dec. 15 on investigation of possession of a controlled substance, second-degree theft from a building, second-degree burglary, felony eluding of a police vehicle, failure to obey an officer; and DUI.
