PropagationNation, a nonprofit that seeks to encourage the widespread planting of California redwoods and giant sequoias in order to sequester carbon, passed out 500 seedlings to locals on Saturday.
The giveaway was part of an effort to determine the level of acceptance by landowners in Western Washington and study potential locations for where these species can be successfully grown in the Evergreen State.
According to organizers for the group, Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace ads drummed up plenty of willing participants hoping to take on their seedlings for planting on their property. The group passed out about 500 of the wannabe giants to some 30 people in the parking lot of the Sequim Elks Lodge.
