Although “readers theater” is a relatively new practice for the Ludlow Village Players, their experiment with the format over the winter holidays proved successful enough for them to try it again.
Just as the Ludlow Village Players presented “It’s a Wonderful Life” as “a live radio play” last fall, so too is the group embarking on its 19th season by conducting staged readings of Pulitzer Prize-winner David Lindsay Abaire’s “Ripcord” this weekend.
In Lindsay-Abaire’s comedic play, two elderly women compete for a private room in an assisted-living facility, and the Ludlow Village Players’ “readers theater” staging will task area actors with delivering dramatic readings of the material, minus costumes, props, scenery or special lighting.
Ludlow Village Players spokesperson Ruth Gribbin-Schmitt explained that actors can use only their scripts and their vocal expressions to help the audience understand the story.
What to know
“Ripcord” starts at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 7, and Saturday, March 8, at the Port Ludlow Beach Club, 121 Marine View Drive. Doors open at 6 p.m. and tickets are $20.
