Lorna Janet (Johnston) Ward, 92, of Quilcene passed away at home surrounded by her loving family.

Lorna was born on July 22, 1929, to Noah and Margaret (Eickhoff) Johnston. She had one sister, Frances.

In 1945, Lorna married Donald L. Ward, and they had four children. They lived most of their married life in Quilcene where they raised their family.

The Quilcene School District hired Lorna in 1967 as head cook at the school. The next year she started the Vocational Cooking program. She taught that class for 25 years. When she retired from the school after 26 years, she was elected and served on the Quilcene School Board for the next 18 years.

If there was a school sports event, Lorna was in attendance. She loved watching football, basketball, volleyball, baseball and fastpitch. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were participants in these sports and she didn’t like to miss any games.

Lorna was a lifetime member and supporter of the Quilcene Booster Club. She also was a member of the Quilcene Historical Museum Board. She attended Quilcene Bible and Quilcene Assembly of God Churches.

Lorna is survived by her four children, daughter, Marjorie (Mike) Schafer; sons, Daniel (Dana) Ward, Kenneth (Connie) Ward and David Ward (Kelly Smith), all of Quilcene.  She has 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several step-grandchildren. She is also survived by her nephews, Stan and Roger Lyckman.

Lorna was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sister.

There will be a Celebration of Life at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14 at the Quilcene School with a potluck to follow.

A private family burial was held at the Quilcene Cemetery.
