Klahowya outpaces East Jefferson runners

The East Jefferson boys cross country team beat feet to second place against Klahowya on Saturday at Kingston High.

The East Jeff boys raced the 5k course first in a 12:30 p.m. start. 

At the end, Alex Oathout, a senior from Klahowya, won with a time of 17:07.2. 

The top EJ athlete was junior Max Allworth-Miles, who placed third overall with a time of 18:09.6. 

Sophomore Sebastian Manza was sixth overall in 19:27.1, and freshman Ocean Smith was 14th in 24:27.6, for East Jeff.

The East Jefferson girls cross country team ran at 1:30 p.m. and Klahowya senior Alyssa Becker dominated the race with a winning time of 18:40.8.

The second-place finisher was Port Townsend sophomore Camryn Hines (21:48.5); followed by freshmen teammates Fiona Fraser (21:59.5, third overall) and Aliyah Yearian (22:09.3, fourth overall). 

The team score was close: The Klahowya girls narrowly beat the EJ girls by two points.

The EJ cross country team’s next competition will be on Saturday, Feb. 27 against Sequim at the PT Golf Course.
