Jefferson Transit is no longer requiring masks on their vehicles or facilities, the transit authority announced via their website Tuesday afternoon.
After a Florida federal court judge’s decision Monday to strike down the federal mask mandate for airplanes and other forms of transportation, Jefferson Transit followed suit along with numerous other transportation agencies, including Washington State Ferries and Clallam Transit.
Masks are encouraged but no longer required on Jefferson Transit vehicles and in transit facilities, said Interim General Manager Nicole Gauthier.
“While masks are no longer required, Jefferson Transit continues to support safety on its vehicles,” Gauthier noted.
The transit authority will still provide masks for any riders or employees who want to use one, continue purifying the air on buses with ultraviolet-light air cleaners, board through the rear doors if applicable, and remain zero-fare on all services except the Kingston Express route.
