Jefferson County Sheriff's Log | Loud neighbors at it again

Posted

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received 271 calls for service between Nov. 21 and  Nov. 27. Below are selected, notable instances.

At 12:39 p.m. Nov. 21, a Port Ludlow woman told police someone had charged $5,000 in various purchases with her credit card.

The purchases had been made in the Seattle area with a card issued in her and her husband’s names.

The couple’s bank was investigating the charges and had agreed to refund the account. Police further advised they file a report with federal authorities as well.

The woman said the fraudulent charges came shortly after they’d used the card at a local convenience store, which she alleged could be how the thief got the account information.

At 6:32 p.m. Nov. 21, police stopped a man in Brinnon who was driving with a brake light out.

It was found the man, 49, of Brinnon, also had a canceled vehicle title.

He was cited and released.

At 10:53 a.m. Nov. 23, a Quilcene woman called police after her neighbors became embroiled in a loud verbal dispute.

The couple live nearby and often argue loudly, a trend she feared is getting worse, though she was not sure if their altercations had grown physical.

She said she was wary of reporting the problem for fear the couple would retaliate against her.

Police advised she call when a dispute was still going on and spoke about some options to ensure her safety.

At 4:44 p.m. Nov. 23, a Port Hadlock resident called police to report an apparent burglary in progress on a neighboring property.

The person had seen several people together at the property, located on Oak Bay Road, with flashlights, some dressed in dark clothes.

Upon arrival, police encountered the group and learned they had recently inherited the property and had come to survey it. Proper documentation was provided and it was determined no crime had been committed, though they said the neighbor was right to report the incident.

At 1:01 a.m. Nov. 26, a 22-year-old woman was arrested in Port Hadlock for driving under the influence.

The woman was pulled over near Oak Bay Road and Ann Kivley Drive after police noted her tabs were expired, one taillight was burnt out, and she failed to dim her high beams for oncoming traffic.

When asked, the woman admitted to having had one hard seltzer drink about two hours earlier.

After a field sobriety test she provided a breathalyzer sample and her BAC was found to be .132. She was allowed to arrange for her boyfriend to come get her car before being arrested and transported to Jefferson County Jail without incident.

At 10:35 a.m. Nov. 26, the second of two reported thefts from parked vehicles in Port Ludlow was made.

The first report had come about 30 minutes before. Both vehicles had been parked near wooded areas and both drivers were thought to have been hunting. From the vehicles the thief took several items, including a knife, binoculars, and shotgun shells, among other things.

There are no suspects.

Reports were filed.

At 8:58 a.m. Nov. 27, police responded to an ultimately fatal accident in Chimacum.

A 71-year-old woman died after she fell in her bathroom and hit her head. Her husband called 911 immediately and upon arrival, paramedics initially requested an emergency helicopter transport but then canceled the order after she died at the scene.

The local funeral home was unable to come for the woman as is typical, police said, as a memorial service was happening at the time. As such, though unusual, police said an aid car transported the woman to the funeral home instead.

At 9:20 p.m. Nov. 27, a man was cited and released for driving with a suspended license in Quilcene.

The man, 49, has a history of driving with a suspended license, police said. He was pulled over for having a right brake light out when the suspension was discovered.

The man was described as being very cooperative.

A report was filed.
