The Jefferson County Public Utility District was awarded third place in the Safety category by the Northwest Public Power Association for utilities with 100,001 to 150,000 hours of annual workplace exposure.

The accolade marks the third consecutive safety award for the utility district, which is among 150-plus utility companies in the United States and Canada a part of the NWPPA.

“We’re incredibly proud of our team as a whole for this award,” said Melanie Des Marais, human resources manager for the PUD.

“It shows that from our line crew to our water team to our office staff, everyone has safety at top of mind,” she added.

The power association defines workplace exposure as the total number of hours worked by all employees in relation to the number of safety incidents and work loss from safety incidents.

The award was presented to PUD staff at the association’s annual Engineering and Operations Conference in Spokane in mid-April.
