East Jefferson youth football teams gathered at Memorial Field Saturday for a game in honor of Travis Seebergoss, a 13-year-old who committed suicide last September.

After the opening kickoff, players from both teams took a knee around Travis’ jersey on the field and held a moment of silence to honor the teen. Travis loved playing football, and his former coach, Cemeron Jevne, coordinated the memorial game to honor Travis and how much football meant to him.

“He loved the sport, he was just so happy to be out there,” Jevne said.

Jevne had coached Travis throughout the past six years, and developed a friendship with the boy through football.

“He turned into my little buddy, because I love the underdogs,” Jevne said.

“Even though he wasn’t the biggest, he was a part of the team,” he added. “It was hard on me and the coaches” when passed away.

Along with the youth teams paying tribute to Travis, Blue Heron Middle School’s football team wore stickers on their helmets for their last football game to honor him as well.

“I think it’s important in the community and youth to pay attention to your youth, whatever it is,” Jevne said. “Every player matters.”
