The Jefferson County Rural Library District serves approximately 20,000 residents in unincorporated Jefferson County, WA, through a main library in Port Hadlock at 620 Cedar Ave. Its traveling Bookmobile serves surrounding communities including Brinnon, Quilcene, Gardiner, Coyle, and Port Ludlow. All programs take place at the Jefferson County Library unless otherwise noted. 

 

June 1 - Aug. 31 

Adult Summer Read: True North by Andrew J. Graff 

True North is a heartfelt novel about marriage and whitewater rafting, following one couple as they navigate the changing currents of family, community, and the river itself. Book Discussions will be held on Aug. 14 at 2 p.m. at the Library in Port Hadlock and on Aug. 20 at 2 p.m. at the Quilcene Community Center in Quilcene. Grab a copy and join us to share the experience of reading this moving and exhilarating adventure story!

Outdoor Storytime at H.J. Carroll Park in Chimacum 

Meet near the Rotary Pavilion to hear stories, sing along to catchy songs, and enjoy physical movement to build children’s love of reading and learning. Storytimes are created with preschool and toddler-age children in mind. All ages are welcome! 

 

Tuesdays, June 4 - Aug. 27, 10:30-11 a.m. 

Outdoor Storytime at Worthington Park in Quilcene

Tuesday, June 4, 3-4:30 p.m.  

In-Person and Online Tech Tuesday Class: Repurpose Your Old Technology 

Tweak an old phone to use it for something new! Explore some ways to turn your outdated device into a security camera, a music player, an alarm clock, and more. Find out where and how to properly dispose of devices you no longer need. Each one-hour class is followed by a 30-minute question-and-answer session and time to practice what you've learned.

Babytime at the Library 

Meet in the Humphrey Room to delight in simple stories, rhymes, and songs, along with playful movements designed to stimulate your baby’s brain development. This lapsit program is for infants and early toddlers. Siblings are welcome!

WSU Garden Know-How: Limiting Apple Damage 

Join WSU Master Gardener Doug Van Allen for a chat about growing apples. Doug will discuss the most effective methods to protect your apples from maggots and moths, ensuring a healthy and delicious crop.  

 

Saturday, June 8, 1-3 p.m.   

WSU Plant Clinic: Ask a Master Gardener!  

Meet with WSU Master Gardeners for help with your gardening questions! Master Gardener Volunteers will be on hand to help you find the right plant for your environment, learn about composting or insect infestations, investigate the unknown pathogen destroying your beloved plants, and everything in between! Plant Clinics are held in the Humphrey Room on the second Saturday of each month.  

 

Tuesday, June 11, 3-4:30 p.m.  

In-Person and Online Tech Tuesday Class: Get to Know NoveList Plus. NoveList Plus is the place to find your next great read! Search for author and title read-a-likes, explore new genres, and more. This powerful database will make the most of your reading experience. The one-hour class will be followed by a 30-minute Q&A and time to practice.

In-Person and Online Book Discussion: Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus  

All are welcome to the JCLD monthly book discussion. Registration is required and copies of the book will be loaned by the Library District when you sign up, which can be done by email. Participants are asked to read the entire book before the scheduled session.

Get help with your gardening questions at the Bookmobile in Quilcene. WSU Master Gardener Volunteers will be at the Quilcene Community Center Bookmobile stop on the fourth Saturday of each month in June, July and August.

Kids of all ages are invited to join Summer Fun challenges. Track your reading and complete activities for chances to earn prizes! Participate in fun programs and events all summer long. Port Hadlock Urban Growth Area Housing Workshop  

Jefferson County would like to invite you to attend a workshop to share valuable information about the urban regulations that will come into effect once the sewer project is complete. The workshop is for property owners, or anyone interested in developing properties in the area. It aims to identify any barriers that may exist in the construction of multifamily housing that is compatible with the surrounding environment.

 

Thursdays, June 27 - Aug. 8, 5-8 p.m. (except Thursday, July 4) 

Dungeons & Dragons for Teens at the Quilcene Community Center . Play the world’s most popular tabletop roleplaying game! Teens ages 12-18 are invited for six weeks of one-of-a-kind story adventure. Delve into a world of drama and danger where you are the characters, and you drive the action. Every session is a new experience! All skill levels are welcome, from novice to master Dungeon Crawler. Summer Fun for Teens: Glass Blowing Demonstration 

Learn about glassblowing while watching Port Townsend Glassworks create a one-of-a-kind art piece for the Library District. Hang out for the entire process or pop in to ask questions and see how far along they are. This program takes place in the Hagen Building adjacent to the Library. All ages are welcome!
