Lifelong Jefferson County resident James “Jimmy” Leavitt passed away from heart failure at Harrison Medical Center, Bremerton, Wa on January 7 , 2020 with family by hisside. He was looking forward to his 71st birthday, just missing it by a few hours.

The eldest of five children, James was born to LaMoine and Evelyn (Gaston) Leavitt, at St. John’s Hospital in Port Townsend, WA on January 8, 1949.

Jimmy was a sweet, caring person. He showed kindness to everyone he met. He would walk up to a stranger, say hello and introduce himself. A happy man with a big smile and hug for all. Once he knew your name he never forgot you. Jimmy had such a good work ethic instilled in him by his parents. Such a hard worker, helping family, friends, neighbors and his community. Jimmy was a big fan of the Mariners and Seahawks. He enjoyed attending many Mariners games over the years. Jimmy liked all music, but country was his favorite.

One of the highlights of the year for him was working at the Jefferson County Fair. He always said they couldn’t do the fair without him. He was proud of his work in keeping the grounds clean. He also liked seeing old friends and meeting new ones.

As usual, Jimmy was splitting wood the day of his unexpected heart attack. Now he can finally rest. We are blessed to have had him in our life. Jimmy taught us all about unconditional love and acceptance. He was loved by so many and will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his father LaMoine, in February 1980, and sister Kathy Telling, in February 2008.

He is survived by his mother Evelyn at the family home, sisters Judy Harwood (Bill), Nancy Mosher (Whitey), brother William Leavitt (Janet) and all of Port Townsend. Aunts Georgia Wakefield and Bernice Jackson, uncle Gary Leavitt, nieces Wendy Behrnes, Stacy Richards, Kory Sukert and Tiffany Holgate, nephew Steven Mosher and numerous cousins.

A celebration of life will be held in early spring with burial at Greenwood Cemetery in Chimacum, WA.
