Introduction to Astronomy and Telescopes

Posted by ptlibrary@cityofpt.us

Does the night sky seem unfamiliar and mysterious? Do you often wonder what is that star you’re seeing, or is it a planet? And are you thinking about getting a telescope but find them confusing and intimidating?

Battle Point Astronomical Association President Frank Petrie will dispel some of the mystery and confusion of understanding the night sky, how to know what’s up and when, and how to choose and use a telescope to enhance your enjoyment of the starry heavens.

This will be a basic overview geared for casual observers and newcomers to astronomy. So come prepared to learn and ask questions! Experienced observers are welcome too and are invited to share your knowledge.

Afterward checkout a library telescope kit generously sponsored by a Spark Joy Grant Better Living Through Giving Grant through the Jefferson Community Foundation.

Program sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
